Philosophy
At
One-on-One College Consulting,
we
believe the college search and
application process should be
exciting, enlightening and
enjoyable…not confusing,
frustrating or stressful. We
understand that choosing a
college is a big deal – it
impacts all members of a family,
so we treat it as such by
guiding students and families to
explore all their options and
make informed decisions so they
feel comfortable with their
final college choice.
Student self-reflection and
self-awareness play a vital role
in how we go about matching
students to colleges. We
believe understanding a
student’s personality plays a
critical role in this process.
Because personality is innate,
it is constant and does not
change significantly over time
like a student’s interests and
skills can. By administering
a personality inventory
specifically designed for
high-school students,
One-on-One College Consulting
can match more accurately
students to potential areas of
study; ones at which they will
succeed. In doing so, students
will be more focused on their
future career goals and be more
apt to graduate college on time
– potentially saving a
significant amount of money in
the long run.
At
One-on-One College Consulting,
we like to use the analogy of an
athlete preparing for a big game
when a student and family take
on the college admissions
process: The “practice” is the
research part (finding colleges
that are the “right” fit for a
particular student – not just
the well-known colleges), and
the “big game” is the
application part of the
process. Achieving positive
results requires many hours of
practice and we believe that
“nothing of significance was
ever achieved without hard
work.”
One-on-One College Consulting
understands the college
admissions process. We treat it
as a process that is front-end
loaded, and we devote
significant time to researching
schools that best match our
students and families.
Essentially, we are a private
coach working one-on-one to
prepare our players for the “big
game.” By doing so, we save our
students and families
considerable time, and
potentially money, by providing
information based on actual
experience in the college
consulting field, going beyond
what can be obtained from
college view books and websites
alone.
