As a parent, you naturally want your child’s college experience to be filled with success.  You want your child to attend a college that meets their personal needs and desires.  You want them to feel comfortable and safe while they are growing and learning.  You want them to be happy.  Let’s face it, when they are happy, you are happy.  It sounds simple, but it doesn’t just happen on its own.  A successful college search demands an extreme amount of work.

The college search process is basically an “adult research project.”  Essentially, the search is for two puzzle pieces (a student and a college) to find each other and fit together.  The process is more of an art than a science.  No two students and no two colleges are exactly alike. Therefore, each college search is unique to both the student searching for a college and the college searching for a student.  Discovering the right college fit becomes more challenging when dealing with a prospective student-athlete.

I established One-on-One College Consulting because there is a need for the services we provide.  As a former high school guidance counselor, I understand the demands of the job.  As much as I wanted to, with a caseload of 300+ students, I just could not devote the necessary one-on-one attention some of my students required.  And as a high school coach who has guided many players to the college level, I also understand how the process is naturally accelerated for student-athletes and how critical it is for them to start their search earlier than most students.

Nearly 60% of college students take five or more years to graduate from a four-year institution!  Why?  Often times it is because they did not research effectively to find the right college fit. Nearly 30% of them transfer after freshmen year, losing credits and wasting valuable tuition dollars.  Obviously, you want to do everything now to avoid this happening to your child later.
